Mark Brooks (M.A. English '98) recently published Laying Autumn's Dust (2024), a novel set in northeast Alabama that blends elements of mystery and coming-of-age fiction. Drawing on the people, landscapes and culture of the South, Brooks tells the story of a family navigating hardship, secrets and resilience. In addition to his work as an author, Brooks has taught writing and literature courses at several colleges and enjoys a range of outdoor pursuits, including trail running, scuba diving and rock climbing.
