Having lived all over the world, Briana Garza (‘11) knows how to find where the locals eat. And she’s made that search simple in Chattanooga with the creation of Chatt Taste.

Chatt Taste showcases the transformation of dining and local businesses in Downtown Chattanooga through guided food tours. Guests can select from the 43 available food tour options, including the Downtown Chatt – the signature tour, Historic Southside Food Tour, Chattabrunch Food Tour and the MLK Southern Cuisine Tour. Each tour comes with transportation and a Chattanooga Ambassador. You can visit 3-4 restaurant locations for the same time and money as a conventional dining experience.

The UTC Alumni team asked Briana about her business, Chatt Taste, which she co-founded with fellow UTC alumnus Clarence Shields (’09):

What’s special about Chatt Taste?

Chatt Taste was selected as a top 10 Food Tour in 2023 by USA TODAY based on the balance of quality cuisine and depth of knowledge of tour guides. This experience is great for tourists and enlightening for locals.

What did you learn at UTC that helps your business day-to-day?

The value of networking. Small business has its difficulties, but having mentors you can reach out to has been instrumental to our success. We still have contacts at UTC that provide guidance even 15 years after graduation.

What’s the one thing you’d recommend as a holiday gift from your business?

Book a tour with a loved one or buy a gift card for someone to enjoy the tour. It’s a great experience to gift someone this holiday season.

Chattanooga was meant to be a steppingstone. Come for undergrad and explore after that, but I fell in love with it. I owe this city for the person it helped me become.
